1 internautes sur 1 ont trouvé ce commentaire utile.Man and womenPar Wilfred LambA lovely book with which to start reading McGahern. This book is much calmer on the whole than the short stories. A sensitive look at male attitudes in Irish rural families and the way the man involved in the story is brought to change his authoritarian (and cruel) attitude. At the same time, the 'escape' on the part of his two sons illustrates not only the psychology of the boys, demanding their freedom but describes changes in Irish society. The women are less well drawn and Rose, the protagonist's second wife becomes rather repetitive and fades as a character.Surpisingly though, the plot of the novel is sketched very clearly in the first two of McG's Short stories.A writer to follow!
